How to Understand the Differences of Office 365 vs Google Account

I understand that understanding these account concepts can be challenging. To simplify the explanation, let’s define the accounts name as:

Office 365 Account

Google Account

Office 365 Account:

Office 365 Account is a part of the Microsoft 365 account. It allows you to utilize Microsoft’s productivity applications and services.

We have a Microsoft 365 account with a specific domain name,

e.g.) firstname.lastname@simplybenefitscanada.onmicrosoft.com

Important!
This account is specifically required when you log into Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel (Sheets), and PowerPoint (Slides).

Google Account (Company Account):

Google Account is a separate account used for various Google services, including Gmail. However, it can sometimes cause confusion because the email client within Office 365 is also named Outlook.

Currently, we are using the Google account as a Company Account to organize our company.

e.g.) firstname.lastname@simplybenefits.ca

What is the Mail client?

It’s a program or application that you can use on your computer or mobile device to access your email accounts. Outlook is an email client that allows you to send, receive, and manage your emails. It provides a user-friendly interface where you can compose new emails, reply to received emails, organize your emails into folders, and search for specific messages.

What else Outlook provides?

Outlook offers other useful features such as a calendar for managing your appointments and events, a contacts list to store and manage your contacts’ information, and a task manager to help you keep track of your to-do lists. You can also set up email signatures, apply filters to organize your inbox, and create rules to automatically sort incoming emails.

Who can use the Outllook?

A user license is required to use the Outlook mail client. Currently, we are providing the license only to members who primarily work on email.

Feel free to contact IT admin if you have any questions.
